HGSE Course Projects
Dr. Nadine Gaab taught the following courses at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE):
Spring 2022/2023:
T250: Children with Learning & Developmental Differences.
The course provides a broad overview of learning disabilities and differences, as well as the relevant policies and educational documentation for these learners. It then covers the professional stakeholders that should be involved in an evidence-based response to a learning difference, and their unique knowledge base, toolset, developmental timeline, and communication strategies, both in the educational/professional environment and the community. Finally, the course focuses on barriers and challenges faced by children with learning differences in the academic, professional, and community settings.
Spring 2021:
H110P: Serving Children with Learning & Developmental Differences: Policymaking & Systems-Level Translation & Coordination.
This course provides an overview of learning differences and the different professional stakeholders that should be involved in an evidence-based response to a learning difference.
H110Q: Children with Learning and Developmental Differences: A Vision for Community Supports and Service Implementation.
This course strongly focuses on community supports and service implementation in educational, informal, and community settings.
For the final collaborative project, students worked in small groups to develop an innovative project outline or pitch that addresses systems-level translation, communication, and/or coordination for individuals with learning disabilities. Solutions like these have the potential to lead to systematic policy changes to serve children with learning and developmental differences with the goal of mitigating the impact of learning differences on academic, social, and economic success.
